Five Upsides to Being Pregnant and Single

Maybe you find out you're expecting with no partner at all.  Maybe your partner doesn't want to be involved.  Or maybe they are simply away.  Whatever the case, going through the journey of pregnancy on your own can be a scary experience.  It really helps to be positive and keep a sense of humor about the whole thing.  During my last pregnancy I realized it wasn't all bad.  So here are 5 upsides I learned about being pregnant and single.

  • You Can Pick Whatever Name You Want
Always loved one name, but your partner didn't?  Well now you can give that name to your baby.  Even if you didn't already have one in mind, it's a lot more fun to look at baby names when you know none are off limits.  There's no one to run them by.  No one to say no.  No fights to be had.  So check out all those baby name websites.  Have fun.

  • Go Ahead and Have That Morning Cup of Coffee (Maybe)
With no one at home to put their two cents in about what you should or shouldn't be doing, you can enjoy your pregnancy just a little more.  Feel like all eyes are on you when you order that latte at the coffee shop?
Well, go ahead and have that cup at home if you want to.  You are the only one judging you!

There's still some controversy over caffeine consumption when pregnant.  Some doctors say one cup is okay, while others may advise against it completely.  Monica Svets, MD, explains it's important to talk to your own doctor before going ahead with that cup of jo.

  • Less Nauseating Smells
Smell of hamburgers cooking make you want to puke your brains out?  The simple solution is to not cook hamburgers.  Of course, it's hard to control what other people do.  But now you don't have to worry about that.  You are in complete control of your environment!  Sure, there's no one to hold your hair back while you're vomiting, but you'll probably vomit less without them.

  • Bring on the Hot Flashes
The heat can about do you in during pregnancy.  All you want is freezing cold ac and the thermostat way down.   Go ahead and make yourself comfortable whenever the heat hits you.  No one will turn off that AC or turn up that thermostat on you.  And pregnancy is so much easier when you're comfortable.  Enjoy that chilly air before your baby comes.

  • No One to Fight With
The last thing you want when you're supporting a life inside you is to fight with anyone.  Chances are, you won't have the energy.  With no one to argue with, you'll be able to save that energy for things that are more fun.  There's cute baby clothes to buy, a nursery to decorate and a birth plan to make.  Less frustration is a priceless thing during pregnancy.

There are a lot of ways being pregnant without a partner can be hard.  And it can certainly feel very lonely.  But it can also be a blessing at times.  Stay positive mamas and remember this list when you are having a rough time with it all.
